For my communications course, I selected digital media topic Social Media. Over the past few months I have delved into the history, usage, and reach of social media. Also, how social has affected the mental health of its users. The evolution of social media dates back to the early 2000’s ( Osina Ortiz Esteban, 2019 “The Rise of Social Media”) Myspace took over the early decade with its groundbreaking features. Since, the decline of Myspace other social network apps have risen up to claimed dominance. Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok are now the nations most used social media apps. Though social media can keep you connected it comes with a downside. That is “Fake News”. The spread of misinformation is at a rapid pace.
